How to create a dewy makeup look with less makeup.

There isn’t a hidden secret to achieving a dewy, youthful makeup look without the need for numberous amounts of cosmetics. It’s all common sense. The key is layering skincare products rather than relying on primers, flash balms or highlighters. An ‘everyday’ dewy makeup routine like this is simplistic enough without being time consuming and is suitable to wear in complience with uniform rules in places of education and work.

Firstly the common mistake that people make particularly around Wintertime is spreading one thick layer of deep moiturising cream or lotion to barrier their skin from the harsh elements. Even if you have dry skin and aren’t aiming to achieve a dewy makeup look, the right direction is layering 2-3 skincare products of differing viscosities.

I start of with using a sheet mask either before bedtime of the previous night or if I have time an hour or so before makeup application. Mask packs with a snail or collagen serum tend to be thicker and tackier than other ingredients used for sheet mask essences; making them a perfect candidate for acting as a substitute for a primer.

Following the sheet mask take advantage of your favourite serum or light oil which should gently be rubbed into skin with circular motions: preferably with delicate pressure from your ring fingers.

The last one or two skincare steps should consist of a lotion and/or gel type moisturiser. Here are suitable suggestions:

  • Garnier Moisture Match (-there are 5 types, each targeted at an individual skin type).
  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
  • Nature Republic 92% Aloe Gel
  • Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream
  • L’Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew
  • Nivea Men Sensitive Moisturiser
  • Innisfree Sparkling Jeju Mineral Lotion

Finally moving on to actual makeup. Of course you want to be reaching for any form of foundation or bb cream that advertises itself as ‘hydrating’, ‘glowing’ or ‘illuminating’. Personally I like to use ‘The Saem – Eco Soul Essence Cushion All Cover‘. The foundation within this cushion compact can give medium coverage and is infused with an essence (- richer than a serum). Other dewy foundations include:

  • L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow
  • Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth foundation
  • Clarins True Radiance Foundation
  • L’Oreal True Match Lumi
  • April Skin Magic Snow Cushion
  • Innisfree Ampoule Intense Cushion

To finish off the look I usually use a liquid lipstick that isn’t matte or a tinted non-sticky lipgloss. If you want to add a highlighter a liquid formula will work best over a dewy foundatiom as long as a stuttle amount is used; the same rule applies for contouring. Contouring sticks a widely available thesedays and immensly practical on days with a tight schedule.
