Tuesday 30th April
I met up with my new friend Mara for some lunch, followed by coffee. I’m sure she won’t mind me introducing you to her as she also is present in the beauty blogging seen, just over on Instagram. It was only our second meet-up, so spending the afternoon together helped us to get to know each other a little better. We took lots of photos in Aneukan Coffee Café & reminisced about the foods we miss back in Europe. I was surprised to hear that Christmas traditions in Romania, aren’t too different from those followed in the UK.
Before coffee, we ate lunch inside a train station underground shopping centre which also has upper floors with row after row of independent resturants which primarily serve as a convenient, quick paced service for passing businessmen/businesswomen during their lunch break. The area is additionally a hot spot for tourists who seek to try traditional Korean dishes at low prices; most of which have been prepared by family run restaurants. My friend craved 김치볶음밥/Kimchi Bokkeum-bap (Spicy cabbage fried rice) & I settled for 고구마 돈까스/ Goguma Donkatsu (Sweet potato Tonkatsu. Tonkatsu means ‘pork cutlet’), which is actually a Japanese-style dish.
Friday 3rd May
Mara & I met-up again for attending the ‘Get it Beauty’ conversation in Gangnam, Seoul (Coex Mall). ‘Get it Beauty’ is a Korean television show which introduces skincare and cosmetics, often through demonstrations, to give views a better understanding of the ingredients in our cosmetics and which ones are worth purchasing. The show is rather popular, with the demographics mainly being women between the ages of 18-45. Kpop idols, actresses and YouTube beauty vloggers make regular appearances which encourage watchers to return weekly. I have only see a few clips of the show with English subtitles. It does get frustrating that these women think they have to wear full makeup and be pristine 24/7, making people feel like they need the featured products, however it is helpful to know of new items that won’t be a waste on expenses; the only issue being that most people of the products mentioned on the show sell out rapidly after an episode airs.
Anyway, this convention followed a similar theme of presenting products and brands which have been approved by the ‘Get it beauty’ team. Brand representatives, most also with the brand owners present, came to sell and pitch their products from Korea, Japan, the US, Hong-Kong & New Zealand. Some clothing brands and pet accessory companies also had stalls.
Overall, most of the representatives were very kind & inviting. Infact many of they generously gave my products to review here on my blog; some of which you have already seen me discuss. I think events like this are key for making connections between beauty brands and bloggers, even if its just a one-time opportunity I’m very thankful for their support.
Sunday 5th May
I didn’t plan anything special for my birthday, infact it’s the first birthday I spent alone. I woke up feeling lonely, but throughout the day I kept myself entertained and relaxed. I ended the day with a long video chat with my parents & brother. By the way, thank you to anyone here that wished me a happy birthday in the comments section of my previous post, over at Instagram or Twitter ☺️
