Now let me tell you my experiences with the masks I have used so far…

S+ Miracle Korean Traditional Recipe Mask (moisturising version)

A moisturising sheet mask designed around traditional/herbal Korean skincare – a recipe which is said to have derived from Donguibogam (a physicians book written during the Joseon Dynasty of Korea). This ancient recipe combines panax Ginseng, Safflower & Ophiopogon Japonicus Root Extract (from the Lily flower family) to hydrate & re-energize skin. The sheet itself is an eco-friendly sheet made from natural plant pulp to create a ‘silky’ comfortable sheet which becomes one with skin. The essence was plentiful to my liking. Because the sheet is so smooth, it retained freshness & coolness well to eliminate skin redness after cleansing. I would like to try the calming, whitening & anti-aging versions of this mask to see how they differ.

Lyajin Yun Mask (hydrating)

This mask was created with revitalising & moisturisation in mind – uniquely using Chitosan to provide these qualities. Chitosan is a sugar derived from the skeletal structures of shellfish; it is typically used as a medication/supplements to treat those with obesity, high cholesterol & Crohn’s Disease. In this mask Chitosan functions as natural cleanser to eliminate unwanted bacteria and sebum from skin; the amount has been diluted enough to be gentle enough for most skin types. As mentioned above, this mask also contains peppermint leaf for it’s anti-inflammatory benefits, lavender for it’s antiseptic and anti-bacterial qualities and safe leaf to irradiate toxins whilst diminishing the prominence of blemishes and minor acne scarring. I found the mask to be comfortable enough against my sensitive skin, and thought that the essence of a good consistency (not too thick, nor too watery). I think anyone who lives in a city, or where pollution and fine dust is an issue, then they’d appreciate this mask’s ability to protect skin’s outer barrier against environmental stressors.

Round Lab Apple Peeling Mask

I’m actually very glad that this came as part of the January Glow Setter box: I had seen it many times whilst living in Korea, but never ended up trying it out. Straightforwardly speaking, apple extracts contain AHAs to gently exfoliate skin without the need for physical exfoliation (rubbing/dry brushing for example). The Niacinamide within this mask is a source of vitamin B3 it helps the mask to reduce the size of enlarged pores, improve uneven/dull skin tone, soften fine lines/wrinkles, and strengthen weakened skin barriers (basically Niacinamide is a much loved ingredient in Korean skincare). The sheet is made for 100% cotton to ensure comfortably as opposed to woven mixed fabrics which can become uncomfortable during the absorption of the mask’s essence. After trying this I have been reassured as to why this brand began to increase in popularity last year, and hope to repurchase this mask soon.
