Today’s blog post is a little bit different from what I regularly share with you. We have a guest post from the lovely Ashleigh over at AE Wildlife Act (a conservation blog). To kick off all the amazing projects they aim to partake in in the near future, Ashleigh has answered some questions so we can understand the importance of such a project and why we should support…
What is ‘AE Wildlife Act’?
‘AE Wildlife Act is an animal conservation blog, which makes readers aware of animal conservation projects happening all around the world. It gives them an insight into what these projects do and why they are needed.’
What project are you raising money for?
‘The project this year which Iโm raising for is called the “Never Forget Campaign”, which is run by a team at Chester Zoo. This project is trying to find a cure for the deadly Elephant endotheliotropic herpesviruses (EEHV) disease, which kills up to 80% of young Asian Elephants in captivity and the wild.’
What does the money raised go to?
‘At the end of the year once the money has been raised, it all (100%) gets donated directly to Chester Zooโs Never Forget Campaign. The money raised goes towards developing testing kits and developing an effective vaccine. Once the vaccine is established, the money will go towards providing a long term treatment to the Asian elephants in captivity and zoos, whether this is through a single injection or boosters.’
How will you be raising money?
‘I will be relying on donations coming through from me completing different challenges every month. With the first challenge being me cycling 700Km within a month, which is an especially difficult challenge when I havenโt been on a bike in 15 yearsโฆ’.
Why did you start this?
‘I started AE Wildlife Act because since training to become a full-time zookeeper, I knew I wanted to make a difference. I didnโt want just to work hands-on with the animals, I wanted to raise awareness and show people around me what is happening to some of the most loved animals in the world and I wanted to show them how they can be involved and stop animals going extinct.’
