A sapphire blue facial oil composed of 100% vegetable oil pleasantly exceeded the expectations of many K-Beauty enthusiasts in 2020. Curated by a brand which primary meet the needs of combination and oily skin types, with a large portion of their consumers being based in humid Southern Asian countries, it was surprising to witness the release of a facial oil – a product typically less favoured by the skin types just mentioned.
Despite the gradual hype beginning to unveil over the Keep Cool Ocean Blue Oil, I wasn’t convinced about the lightweight texture of this oil until my own experience with the product, which I’ll discuss in due course.
Recognition
This year, the Keep Cool Ocean Deep Blue Oil (which from now on we will call ‘the blue oil’ for convenience), received several official beauty and skincare awards under the facial oil category. Some to mention are the Glowpick Consumers Choice and Hi Seoul Awards (issued by SBA – Seoul Business Agency).
About
This oil Vegan and cruelty-free. It doesn’t contain any artificial fragrances or synthetic colourants. It’s also hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types. It aims to provide essential plant-derived vitamins and nutrients, whilst topping-up skin with essential moisture for balancing skin’s water to oil ratio.
My Experience
In the height of Summer this year, I put the Keep Cool Ocean Deep Blue Oil through its paces to see how it withstands against the pressures of humid weather. During this time this facial oil was still relatively new, so I hadn’t come across many people’s experiences of using the oil during the warmer months of the year. Which lead me to using it for myself on my sensitive oily skin.
In my initial review of this product, which is still available on my Instagram page, I declared my admiration for this oil. And now in present time, I’ve come to appreciate this oil even more now that I’ve tried it across the majority of seasons.
This oil rapidly soaks into skin to provide long-lasting moisture and nourishment throughout wear, thus performing uniquely to the majority of oils which seep into skin gradually. Because of the nature of this formula, only a few drops are needed and can be comfortably worn during the daytime even in warmer climates.
The Blue Oil contains countless plant extracts. Some of my favourite inclusions are sunflower seed oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, eggplant extract, turmeric root extract & moringa oleifera (drumstick tree) seed oil. The full ingredient list can be found below.
Simmondsia Chinensis (jojoba) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil, Cyperus Esculentus Root Oil, Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (sweet Almond) Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Solanum Melongena (eggplant) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Curcuma Longa (turmeric) Root Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (bergamot) Fruit Oil, Salvia Sclarea (clary) Oil, Citral, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool, Citronellol, Limonene.
As the weather during Summer in London fluctuated in temperature range so unpredictably from one day to the next, in just a week I was able to test the oil both in slightly cold and humid conditions (in 9°c~28°c weather). No matter of the external factors, this oil remains comfortable and doesn’t seem to greatly effect my sebum production moreso than usual. But I’d say 2 drops are sufficient for most days, whereas 3 drops may be better on days when it’s very chilly or the air condition around you is dry.
I just can’t get over how non-greasy and fast absorbing this oil is. To date, I haven’t tried anything else that compares.
Due to the popularity of this oil, you can now purchase it across countless global K-Beauty websites. In the UK it is available at Skin Library. If you’re looking to try out the blue oil for yourself, or any products from Skin Library you’re welcome to use my 10% off discount code. Use code: SIMPLYEMS10
To celebrate the success of the oil, Keep Cool have released a kit which contains the blue oil as well as a Gua Sha stone.
