During Winter of last year, I had the pleasure of using some products from Korean Skincare brand Cellabel for the first time. I tried out the Cellabel Triple Hyaluronic Cream & Calming Relief Gel Cream – both of which did wonders for strengthening my skin’s moisture barrier over the course of the cold months.
During that time my skin barrier was compromised due to the cold climate. But also as a result of spending so much time indoors at home due to lockdown, and therefore often being in an environment with the central heating on. My skin was almost completely off balance, one minute feeling dehydrated and sensitive, and oily the next. Both the Cellabel hyaluronic cream and calming gel moisturiser helped to overcome this imbalance and improve the health of my skin barrier.
This initial positive experience lead me to wanting to check out more of their products as the majority of their formulas focus on reviving sensitive, inner dehydrated and depleted skin types like my skin tends to be if I don’t maintain a consistent skincare regime.
I noticed on the Cellabel Global Instagram page that they have since released a new product: the Centella Rx Soothing Ampoule. And so I kept my eye one it. Coincidentally, Cellabel ask me if I’d like to try this ampoule and share my honest thoughts and experience. Which now brings me here to tell you all about my experience with 100% transparency. I suppose from the heading of this post you can already see which direction this is going.
What does this ampoule do?
As the product name suggests, this is a soothing ampoule targeted at sensitive and acne-prone skin types. This ampoule is one of two products within the Cellabel Calming Relief line. It’s encouraged that you use the matching calming relief gel cream I mentioned earlier with this ampoule to optimise the soothing effects. Its formula is gentle to soothe discomfort commonly associated with irritable skin, and help with the recovery of troubled skin which is prone to breakouts and redness.
Cellabel understands that whilst Centella Asiatica possesses great properties which relieve the symptoms of skin irritation, restoring hydration beyond the surface of skin it key for the recovery of weak and troubled skin types/conditions. Therefore when curating the Centella Rx Soothing Ampoule, they made sure to include ingredients such as Sodium Hyaluronate and Panthenol to deliver long-lasting moisture skin-deep; these ingredients also help the Centella Asiatica to absorb into skin more thoroughly.
What is ‘Centella Rx’?
Centella Rx refers to a trio of ingredients and an ingredient complex which ultimately work together to ‘nurse’ sensitive and sensitised skin back to a healthy state.
Centella Rx is comprised of:
- Centella Asiatica
- A ‘regenerative ingredient complex’ consisting of Asiaticoside, Madecassoside & Asiatic Acid (derivatives of Centella Asiatica)
- & Ceramide.
Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycerin, Water, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Panthenol, Sea Water, Centella Asiatica Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin Carbomer, Arginine, Melia Azadirachta Leat Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Melia Azadirachla Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Ceramide 3, Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Rhizobian Gum Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Cynanchum Atratum Extract, Chamomilla Reculte (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Acacia Senegal Gum, Asiaticoside, Madecassoside, Madecassic Acid, Madecassoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Hydrogenated Lecihin, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Silk Amino Acids, Royal Jelly Extract, Nonapepide-1.
The ampoule has a ‘watery’ consistency which works into skin with minimal effort, leaving behind an almost undetectable residue. Because it is liquidy and doesn’t have the aloe vera like texture of some other Centella serums/ampoules I’ve tried over the years, it’s even easier to apply. It spreads d out well, and one pipette worth of product is enough to cover the face and neck in its entirety.
This simple texture makes it ideal for layering without making skin feel weighted so early into a skincare routine. When using this product twice daily to diminish redness and itchiness, the ampoule didn’t cause peeling when used alongside my other skincare products. Nor did it encourage sebum production or make my skin look too dewy.
It took only a couple of uses to notice the skin calming effects of this ampoule. If your skin tends to be red on the cheeks, this product will address that and calm down the source of the irritation. I’d say it took only a few days to allow this product to make my skin feel more comfortable in itself, although the hydrating benefits we immediate.
I like how quickly it absorbs into skin, in a way which you can feel that it’s still ‘there’ and hasn’t absorbed into nothing if you understand what I mean. I didn’t feel as though I needed to top on moisture throughout the day when using the ampoule, because it introduces sodium hyaluronate and panthenol early on into my routine. In this retrospect it gets a big thumbs up from me.
Are there any downsides to this product?
I can’t identify any major faults in this product. I doesn’t contain any unkind ingredients for my skin personally, and I didn’t have any difficulty incorporating the ampoule into my current routine either. I suppose the only thing I would change about it is the size of the bottle.
The bottle isn’t exactly small, it holds 30ml of product which is pretty much standard for a serum or ampoule. However, if we take into account that some people (myself included) will always have sensitive skin which can’t be entirely altered or improved by skincare products, and therefore will always be reliant on a soothing product like this, a larger bottle would be needed in this case.
Furthermore, Cellabel are still in the midst of expanding globally. I can’t know for sure but I think the pandemic delayed their progress. At least for now, a select few of their most popular products are sold on Amazon in the US.
